The sessions of Advanced Energy Storage 2010 will be led by industry professionals who have been directly involved in establishing the directions and advances of the advanced energy storage industries.  Expert in the markets, technologies and applications, these individuals are recognized internationally as key contributors to the future of energy and power strategies.
Pre Conference Seminar on Markets and Applications

Anu Elizabeth Cherian is an Industry Analyst with Frost & Sullivan’s North American Energy & Power Systems practice. She focuses on monitoring and analyzing emerging trends, technologies, and market dynamics in the energy storage, alternative energy, power supplies, and power quality industries worldwide. Anu has completed several research studies and consulting projects on ultracapacitors, fuel cells, flywheels , UPS, and DC power systems focused on telecommunications, power factor correction capacitors, voltage regulators and DIN Rail power supplies . She has also worked on services studies on power quality as well as power distribution markets.

Pre Conference Seminar on Technologies

 C. Joseph Farahmandi, President --  Joseph has been working in the development and commercialization of electrochemical energy storage products for the past 19 years. He is currently president and founder of Ionix Power Systems, a company focused on the development and commercialization of energy storage products and systems. Prior to forming Ionix he served as Director of Energy Storage products for Qualmag and Director Ultracapacitor Product Development for Maxwell Technologies. Over his career he has overseen numerous research and development projects, resulting in several high volume product lines. He currently has sixteen patents and several pending patents in the field of electrochemical energy storage.

Session 1:  Advanced Materials

Session 2:  Energy Storage Components
  Chairman to be identified
Session 3:  Hybrid Energy Storage
John Miller, John joined Maxwell in December 2005, assuming primary responsibility for world wide applications engineering that includes development of Maxwell University training for field application engineers.  He remains active in the development and promotion of ultracapacitor-based solutions for the automotive and heavy vehicle industries. Previously, he spent 20 years in a series of engineering and research and development positions with the Ford Motor Company, where he led several Ford automotive electronics and electric and hybrid drive train development programs.
Session 4:  Integrated Systems and Power Electronics
Chad Hall, Founder and COO of Ioxus, Inc -- Chad Chad Hall spent 14 years with Ioxus’ parent company, Custom Electronics, Inc. (CEI). For the last six years at CEI, he has served as the engineering manager. His extensive mechanical engineering and business experience played a key role in the creation of Ioxus from funding, setting up the factory, and launching the company.  Chad is responsible for manufacturing and testing of standard products, as well as further establishing the company and building the team, increasing sales, locating funding, and spurring continued product development.
Session 5:  Light Mobile
Dr. Ahmad Pesaran, Principal Engineer and Manager of Energy Storage Team --
NREL is the only federal laboratory dedicated to the research, development, commercialization and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. Backed by 32 years of achievement, NREL leads the way in helping meet the growing demand for clean energy.
Session 6:  Heavy Transportation
Dave Mazaika, COO -- Dave has operational responsibility over Quantum’s Drive System, Solar System, and Fuel Systems groups.  Mr. Mazaika also serves on the Board of ISE Corporation.  Prior to his appointment to the Board, Mr. Mazaika was President and CEO of ISE corporation for 13 years.  He was responsible for co-founding the company and growing it to the third largest supplier of heavy duty hybrid drive systems in the United States.  He architected and led the company’s growth from a start-up research organization to a volume hybrid drive system supplier of internationally recognized performance leading products.
Session 7:  Smart Grid
John Sowers, Vice President -- Sempra Generation provides power to key wholesale electricity markets in North America. The company owns and operates power plants which are among the cleanest and most advanced in the western United States. These plants use clean-burning natural gas to produce electricity that is sold to utilities, power marketers and large energy users. Sempra Generation also develops renewable energy generation projects.
